‘Weakest People Consider Encounters as Their Strength …,’ Akhilesh Yadav Slams Government After Anuj Pratap Singh Encounter

Akhilesh Yadav Criticizes Yogi Government's Actions Following Anuj Pratap Singh Encounter Amid Rising Political Tensions.

Akhilesh Yadav

Akhilesh Yadav: In a recent turn of events, Anuj Pratap Singh, an accused in the Sultanpur robbery case, has been killed in an encounter with the UP STF in Achalganj, Unnao. This incident has ignited a political controversy, with Samajwadi Party (SP) leader Akhilesh Yadav condemning the UP government’s actions. The encounter follows another earlier killing of a co-accused, Mangesh Yadav. On August 28, a robbery took place at a jeweler’s shop in Sultanpur, involving both accused.

Akhilesh Yadav’s Strong Reaction

Akhilesh Yadav took to X (formerly twitter) to voice his concerns, stating, “The weakest people consider encounters as their strength. Any fake encounter is injustice. Tarnishing the image of UP with violence and blood is a big conspiracy against the future of UP. Those in power today know that they will never be re-elected in the future. That is why, before leaving, they want to create such a situation in UP that no one enters or invests in the state. The BJP is taking revenge for the way the aware people of UP defeated them in the Lok Sabha elections. Those who have no future of their own spoil the future of others. Condemnable!”

Allegations of a Fake Encounter

The Samajwadi Party has labeled Anuj Pratap Singh’s encounter as fake, accusing the Yogi government of protecting larger criminals. SP spokesperson Udayveer Singh described the encounter as a setup, questioning if the accused were simply waiting near Sultanpur for their deaths. He noted that first a Yadav was killed, and now a Thakur, suggesting that the STF is settling scores.

Political Fallout and Caste Dynamics

Following Mangesh Yadav’s encounter, the political atmosphere in Uttar Pradesh became charged. The SP had previously accused the government of targeting specific castes, and now, after Anuj Pratap Singh’s death, his father expressed that Akhilesh Yadav’s wish has come true with the killing of a Thakur.

Karmaj Singh, Anuj Pratap Singh’s father, remarked, “Anuj was my son. He had only one case against him in Surat, and his name was linked to the Sultanpur case. The police killed him in an encounter, but we were not informed about anything. He came to the village on May 3 and left on June 4. Well, at least Akhilesh Yadav’s wish is fulfilled. Now that a Thakur has also been killed, he must be satisfied. There are people with 35-40 cases against them, but no encounters happen to them. Those with only 1-2 cases are being killed. The government is doing whatever it wants.”
