Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath made a stern statement on Sunday in response to a recent incident where a girl student tragically lost her life during a molestation attempt. He warned that anyone committing crimes against women in the state would face severe consequences, suggesting that “Yamraj,” the deity of death, would be waiting for them.

The incident in question occurred on Friday when two individuals on a motorcycle attempted to molest a girl student by pulling her ‘dupatta,’ causing her to fall off her bicycle. Tragically, she was then run over by another motorcyclist in Ambedkarnagar.
The three accused involved in the incident were subsequently arrested on Saturday night. According to police reports, two of the accused sustained bullet injuries, while the third suffered a leg fracture when attempting to escape custody on Sunday.
Speaking at an event where he inaugurated and laid the foundation stones for 76 projects worth Rs 343 crore in the district, Chief Minister Adityanath emphasized the importance of a strong legal system for maintaining law and order. He stressed that the law would not be misused to disrupt the system.
The ruling BJP in Uttar Pradesh has frequently touted the Adityanath government’s handling of law and order in the state as one of its achievements.
The incident was captured on CCTV footage, showing the victim, a class 11 student, riding her bicycle with another girl when a speeding motorcycle approached from behind. The pillion rider pulled her ‘dupatta’ as they passed, causing her to lose balance and fall to the ground. Tragically, she was run over by another motorist approaching from behind.
The three arrested accused were identified as Sehbaz and his brother Arbaz, who pulled the ‘dupatta,’ and Faisal, who ran over the girl. Authorities are currently investigating whether there is any connection between the accused brothers and Faisal.
The accused have been booked under IPC sections 302 (murder) and 354 (assault to outrage the modesty of a woman), along with relevant sections of the POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) Act.
