West Bengal: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) claimed on Sunday evening that a Ram Navami gathering was attacked outside a mosque in Rishra, West Bengal’s Hooghly district, and that its local legislator was hurt, prompting prohibitory orders and the suspension of the internet. Dilip Ghosh, a BJP national vice-president who attended the gathering, posted a video on social media in which stones were thrown from a mosque. The new violence occurred just days after the West Bengal Police’s criminal investigation department (CID) launched an investigation into incidences of violence surrounding Ram Navami celebrations in Shibpur, Howrah district, on March 30 and 31.
