Viral Video: One such video came in from Ghaziabad‘s Indirapuram in Uttar Pradesh where a man was drowning in the canal but onlookers were shooting his video and did not save him. Meanwhile, a former Marine Commando of the Indian Navy, DS Negi, reached the spot and heroically saved the young boy; the video of that bravery has gone viral on social media.
Man Falls into Canal Amidst Chaos
The incident took place after a man fell into a canal connected to the Hindon river. Even if they were all creating a ruckus and were busy capturing the drama on their mobile phones, not a single person decided to rescue the person who had fallen. Fortunately, on the spot there was DS Negi, who used to be an ex-Marine Commando. He understood that he did not have any time left and without wasting much time, Negi promptly took off his shirt, handed his mobile phone to a man on the street, and jumped into the canal.
Although the canal was not very deep, the young man continued to submerge as he was helpless in swimming. Negi quickly reached there and grabbed a hold, pulling him out from the canal. Once out, other people helped to take him farther out from the water, as he was unconscious. Due to quick response by Negi, a likely accident was nullified. After taking the young man out, Negi along with others helped in bringing him up to the road.
Public Acclaim for Negi’s Heroism
Negi’s brave act has been lauded from all quarters. Meanwhile, comments on the social website have admired his bravery and put to shame the other pedestrian for not stepping up to help the other person. Many have raised concern over the growing tendency to record emergencies instead of helping during a mishap. Comments on social media pages also appreciated the presence of mind by Negi and the dedication of Indian Navy to serve humanity at any moment.
Some netizens also observed the dangers of getting without skills to try and rescue a person from drowning, even urging that it is a necessity that one must know how to swim first before attempting. In this day and age of recording tragedies, DS Negi’s selfless action is a throwback to how instant action and the heroic spirit of those trained to save lives should be.
