Viral Video: Lucknow, the capital of Uttar Pradesh, and its adjoining districts were at the receiving end of heavy rainfall today, which brought wide-scale waterlogging and disruption in the city. Torrential rain turned the cityscape into a series of lakes, with major roads, underpasses, and some important government buildings being submerged in rainwater.
Water Overflows from Vidhan Sabha to Municipal Corporation Office
A situation of great crisis has emerged in Lucknow, where the water through the heavy downpour has started flowing from Vidhan Sabha building to the Municipal Corporation office. The viral videos going round on social media show that floods have already spilled over some major landmarks and turned the city streets into watery expanse. The gushing floodwaters have even entered the Vidhan Sabha premises itself. Visuals showed employees trying to remove water using modern machines from different parts and manual efforts together. In view of this, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath was brought out through Gate No. 1.
The place of the Municipal Corporation office, the one that deals with maintaining the sewage and drainage of the city, was no different, and its premises are filled with water. This incident attracted harsh criticism from the residents and social media users, who commented harshly on those comments and questioned the effectiveness. A video uploaded by X user Sachin Gupta shows those employees walking through the waterlogged corridors of the Municipal Corporation office, which clearly presented the pathetic situation of managing that rainwater effectively.
Debates Rage Over Causes of Severe Waterlogging
It is a crisis that is not only limited within the premises of government buildings but has affected most parts of the city, including Chowk, Gomti Nagar, Hazratganj, and Darul Safa. Pouring waterlogging has incited a furor among the people, and heated debate is continuing inside everybody’s heads about whether the problem arises from the limitations of the city’s drainage system or the sheer volume of rainfall.
With time, a focus on emergency responses and long-term solutions will ensure that such a state of waterlogging is avoided. It would definitely bring the city’s infrastructure and disaster management strategies in a flowing display, indicating effective urban planning and its concomitant effective maintenance to deliver a disaster-free environment.
