Violation of DUSU Election Rules

According to the DUSU byelaws, only four students, along with the candidate of DUSU, are allowed into a college’s campus during elections. However, this provision was apparently thrown into the wind as a large crowd, including Ronak Khatri, the NSUI presidential candidate for DUSU, stormed into the college with several supporters.

Mitravinda Karanwal, the ABVP secretary candidate of DUSU, condemned the incident openly calling it “shameful.” She said barging of male outsiders into a women’s college was not acceptable and described the behavior of NSUI supporters as violent. She claimed alliance with the female students “who did not feel safe in the fiasco” and urged immediate action regarding the incident.

Female Students Attempt to Block Entry

Footage from the scene reveals a packed campus full of students, many of whom seemed frightened as the events unfolded. When female students tried to bar them from entering, aggression was met with them, and they were reportedly pushed and shoved, increasing the tension and danger that loomed over everything.

This incident did not only provoke anger from the students and faculty but also make one reflect over the safety rules in force during college elections and whether there is an earnest need for strict imposition of the rules to safeguard students, more so at a women’s college. As the university community reacts to this distasteful occurrence, the pressures for accountability and a measure to ensure campus safety are calling louder.
