Viral Video: In the open, a Dalit woman was allegedly beaten up by a policeman in Sitamarhi, Bihar. A video of the event gained widespread attention on social media, igniting a debate. In the widely circulated video on social media, Raj Kishore Singh, a police officer, is seen in uniform striking a woman with a stick in broad daylight as onlookers watch.
Public Altercation Escalates
The woman and another woman were involved in a public altercation when the police officer charged at her. The police haven’t verified the footage, though. Manoj Kumar Tiwari, the Sitamarhi SP, told India Today TV that if the officer is found guilty, the proper action will be taken.
Shehzad Poonawalla Condemns Assault on Dalit Woman
Shehzad Poonawalla, the national spokesperson for the Bhp, commented on the incident and said that while criminals were free to roam Bihar, people there were being “lathi-charged”. “Dalit woman brutally thrashed by cop in Bihar! After women, Anganwadi workers, kisan (farmer), teachers, now Dalits are thrashed in Bihar. In Bihar, under Nitish-Lalu there is jungle raj – free run for criminals and gangs but lathi-goli for commoners. Where are Dalit Lives Matter champions – Rahul Gandhi? Priyanka?,” he wrote on X.
