Viral Video: In a shocking incident that has garnered widespread attention, the Mirganj Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) in Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh, is in the spotlight for instructing a complainant to kneel before him in a posture resembling a rooster. The video clearly captures the SDM seated at his office desk, while the complainant is seen kneeling before him, imitating the pose of a rooster or chicken.
What had actually happened?
The SDM involved in this incident has been identified as Udit Pawar. According to reports, the incident unfolded when a villager from Mandanpur village in Uttar Pradesh approached the SDM with a request to address the issue of land encroachment in their village. The land, reportedly encroached upon, is designated for use as a cremation ground. The incident was captured on video and quickly gained widespread attention on social media, with netizens expressing strong criticism and outrage toward the SDM for his actions against the villager.
SDM Udit Pawar has refuted the allegations, stating that the incident has been falsely portrayed. He denies having instructed anyone to kneel in a humiliating manner. Instead, he claims that the villager himself sat like that during their interaction. According to Pawar, this act was intended to exert pressure on him to start action against the alleged illegal occupation of the cremation ground in the village. He emphasised that any action can only be taken once the encroachment is proven through an inquiry. Pawar advised the villager to await the outcome of the investigation into the land encroachment matter.

He clarified that he informed the villager that any action would be taken on the completion of a thorough inquiry into the matter. Pawar also alleged that he is facing false accusations after declining to take precipitous action in the case without a proper investigation. Nevertheless, authorities have taken action against the SDM, summoning him to the headquarters for questioning regarding the incident in which a villager was subjected to humiliation at his office in Mirganj.
