Google and Foxconn are collaborating for the first time to produce Pixel smartphones in Tamil Nadu. The announcement of this relationship was made by Chief Minister MK Stalin on Thursday, May 23, citing productive discussions between Google and the state government as the reason behind it. This development aligns with Stalin’s ambitious desire to create Tamil Nadu’s GDP worth $1 trillion by 2030.
Employment Opportunities for Tamil Nadu’s Youth
Chief Minister Stalin underlined how many jobs can be created in the region. The construction of the Pixel manufacturing facility in Chennai is expected to significantly boost work opportunities, particularly for young people with degrees in computer technology.
Strategic Moves to Achieve $1 Trillion Economy
Stalin has set a high target for Tamil Nadu’s economy: $1 trillion by 2030. The state has been aggressively interacting with investors throughout the world to accomplish this. Following meetings in France, Malaysia, Singapore, Japan, the Arab world, an impressive ₹9.61 lakh crore in investment has been committed. 30 lakh young people are expected to get work as a result of this investment.
Key Discussions and Negotiations
Following the chief minister’s instruction, state Industries Minister TRB Rajaa travelled to the US to talk with representatives of Google and Foxconn about the possible project. Following these talks, Google decided to work with Foxconn to establish a Pixel smartphone manufacturing facility in Tamil Nadu.
