Meerut News: According to authorities, an unidentified bike-borne assailant shot and killed a woman lawyer, age 35, as she was walking home from the store with milk on Thursday. Anjali Garg, the victim, was shot in the head and passed out on Wednesday at the gate of her home in the New Mewla Colony, which is under the Transport Nagar police station. Police took her to the hospital and had her pronounced dead when they arrived.
Ex-Husband and Father-in-Law Arrested After Lawyer Reports Threats
A few of weeks ago, Anjali went to the police to report threats against her life and fears for her safety. Her ex-husband Nitin Garg and his father Pawan Garg were both arrested in connection with the crime after her family reported them to the police. After their divorce, according to the police, Anjali and her ex-husband’s family got into a property dispute. “After divorcing in 2020, Anjali and her husband Nitin Garg agreed to a settlement in which Anjali had to give up the house in exchange for five shops. She broke the deal, though, and the Garg family became displeased with her. Pawan and Nitin wanted the house back, and Anjali relied on the rent from the stores for income. Over time, the confrontation got worse,” SP (city) Piyush Kumar said.
Lawyer Raises Safety Concerns and Alleges Threats
The officials claimed that on May 18, Anjali requested assistance from the office of the IG of the Meerut range and expressed her concern for her safety. She claimed that Pawan had threatened her in her application. According to her, he even invited two men to her residence to criticise it. She said, “Pawan and his cronies will be accountable if anything bad happens to me.”
