Haryana: Ishwar Singh of the Jannayak Janta Party (JJP) was slapped on Wednesday as he was assessing the situation in Ghula by a woman who was upset over the flooding in Haryana. She was obviously upset over the flooding that had occurred due to the Ghaggar river overflowing in the neighbourhood. She slapped the lawmaker and demanded, “Why have you come now?” She was upset because a “bundh” (small dam) had broken, allowing water to enter the area and causing floods. A viral video depicts a throng gathered around the MLA. At this point, the woman approaches, clearly enraged, and slaps him.
JJP MLA Faces Public Criticism Amidst Village Visit
The JJP MLA responded to the incident by claiming that he was approached by individuals while trying to assess the flood situation in a village. The Haryana government coalition, which is led by the BJP, includes JJP. “The woman said that had I wanted, the ‘bundh’ would not have breached. Though I explained to her that it was a natural calamity and there had been heavy rain during the past few days,” news agency PTI quoted him as saying.
JJP MLA Chooses Not to Pursue Legal Action Against Woman
He claimed that he will not pursue legal action against the woman because he had “forgiven” her for her behaviour. “I don’t want her actions to be punished in any way. I have pardoned her,” he declared. Relief efforts are in progress as a number of villages in Punjab and Haryana are still being impacted by the overflowing Ghaggar River as a result of recent severe rainfall.
