Persistent rainfall triggers flood-like conditions in Noida, impacting residents and farmers alike. Read about the ongoing situation and the efforts to alleviate the distress.
Torrential Rainfall Unleashes Flooding Havoc in Noida
The unrelenting showers in the upstream regions have prompted a flooding scare in Noida. As the Yamuna overflows its banks, it has left the residential and agricultural expanses of Khadar in Noida’s sectors 124, 125, and 135 underwater. Even sector 137 isn’t spared, witnessing its streets inundated with approximately 18 inches of water. This sudden deluge has created a pressing challenge for the local populace and the administrative machinery, striving to secure those stranded and supply essential sustenance.
Residents Confront Disruptions, District Administration Under Scrutiny
As the relentless waters seep into their homes and fields, the inhabitants of Sector 125 are finding themselves particularly beleaguered. The majority being migrant labourers, their hardships are amplified by the inundation, dampness, and relentless sunshine they are forced to endure without adequate shelter. Criticisms are surfacing against the district administration for purportedly neglecting the provision of food and clean water, a situation disproportionately impacting the innocent young ones.
Local Agriculture Severely Hit, Losses Mounting for Farmers
The overflows from the Yamuna have inflicted considerable damage on the agricultural sector. In the sectors stretching from 125 to 135, the floods have submerged expansive millet and paddy fields, incurring losses in lakhs for the farming community. A distressing incident unfolded in Sector 168, where the floodwaters threatened the safety of over a hundred cows housed in a local Gaushala. Thanks to the timely response of the fire department, a significant disaster was averted.
Traffic Diversion Implemented, Commuters Advised to Exercise Caution
As the water levels of the Yamuna continue to surge, traffic disruptions are inevitable. Authorities have rerouted the traffic from Noida-DND toll border to Delhi-Ashram. Commuters are advised to opt for the alternative routes via Kalindi Kunj and Noida-Chilla border for reaching their destinations. Traffic police urge citizens to exercise caution and patience during this challenging phase.
The ongoing flooding crisis in Noida is a testament to the challenges posed by extreme weather conditions. As the Yamuna continues to rise, the perseverance of the local community, alongside the collaborative rescue and relief operations, are essential in overcoming this alarming situation.
