Amazon: Seeking to gain an advantage in the race against artificial intelligence, Amazon is investing outside of its core business for the first time in its thirty years. With Anthropic, a San Francisco-based firm widely considered a leader in generative artificial intelligence, the tech giant announced that it will invest an additional $2.75 billion in support of the company. Its chatbot Claude and foundation approach are in competition with OpenAI and ChatGPT.
Amazon invests $2.75 Billion in Anthropic
San Francisco-based start-up Anthropic, which is well-known for its work in generative artificial intelligence, has received an additional $2.75 billion from Amazon.
This brings the total investment to $4 billion, following Amazon’s $1.25 billion first investment in September.
The company said that Amazon would not have an Anthropic board seat and would continue to own a minority position in the business. The agreement was reached at the AI startup’s previous valuation, which was $18.4 billion, a source said.

For the first time on Tuesday, Anthropic’s Claude 3 Opus large language model (LLM) outperformed OpenAI’s GPT-4, which powers ChatGPT, on Chatbot Arena, a popular crowdsourced scoreboard used by AI researchers to evaluate the relative capabilities of AI language models.
