At least 12 Android apps—the majority of which pass for chat apps—have been discovered by the security experts at ESET to secretly install Trojan horses on devices in order to steal data like call and message logs, take over the camera remotely, and even retrieve chat histories from end-to-end encrypted platforms like WhatsApp.
YohooTalk, TikTalk, Privee Talk, MeetMe, Nidus, GlowChat, Let’s Chat, Quick Chat, Rafaqat, Chit Chat, Hello Chat, and Wave Chat are the apps in concern. It should go without saying that you should remove any of these apps that are currently loaded on your devices.
What did the company say?
ESET finding report, reported, “It steals contacts, files, call logs, and SMS messages, but some of its implementations can even extract WhatsApp and Signal messages, record phone calls, and take pictures with the camera.”
When combined, these apps had about 1400 installations.
