Apple Airtag: Lufthansa, a German airline, has prohibited Apple AirTags in luggage. The airline prohibits its passengers from bringing activated AirTags on board, claiming the ‘dangerous’ element of gadget tracking. German media originally reported that the airline had prohibited the tracking device. When a Twitter user with the handle @djthomashome inquired as to whether Lufthansa prohibits Apple AirTag from checked baggage, the airline responded, “Lufthansa prohibits activated AirTag from checked baggage because they are considered dangerous and must be deactivated.” Apple Insider was the first to report the occurrence.
The airline responds, “According to International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) norms, baggage trackers are subject to the dangerous goods laws.” In addition, as a result of their transmission function, the trackers must be deactivated during the journey if they are in checked baggage”
Apple AirTags are frequently utilized by travelers for real-time luggage tracking. Lufthansa appears to indicate that AirTags may be placed in checked baggage if the battery is removed.
Apple insider report
According to an Apple Insider source, the ICAO criteria under which Lufthansa has outlawed AirTags are incorrect, specifically the legislation Lufthansa cites. Lufthansa cites ICAO limitations on lithium ion batteries, including those in a MacBook Pro. It is stated that the significantly smaller battery size of Apple AirTags is a concern under the standards. In addition, the AirTag utilises CR2032 cells, which are not lithium-ion batteries and are therefore not covered by the law. If CR2032 cells were dangerous, watches with the same type of cell would also not be allowed on flights.
