Apple: Epic Systems, a company that keeps medical records, has teamed up with Apple to bring its tools for electronic health records to macOS.
AppleInsider Reports
Apple wanted Epic to make a native version of the service for macOS, but Epic is reportedly working on a tool that would be easier to use than a native app.
A source told Axios in a report on Wednesday that Epic is working on making it easier for doctors to use Epic on Macs.
Epic Systems is the biggest company in the US that sells electronic health records. A report from 2021 says that over 250 million patients’ medical records are held by Epic.
Patients can easily access their medical records
After being at odds for a few years, the two companies are now making a deal. In 2020, Apple came out in support of a proposed government policy that would make it easier for patients to access their medical records. Apple Health was the first app to do this, so the company was a pioneer in this field.
The “Continuity Camera” function was included in the most recent version of macOS Ventura last month, allowing users to sync their iPhone with a Mac and use it as a webcam with programs like FaceTime and Zoom.
It let iPhone owners wirelessly connect their device to a Mac and use it as a webcam.
Epic was against the rules because they would be “too hard” on America’s health care system and “put patient privacy at risk.”
