Apple iPhone 15 Pro Max: Regarding the hybrid glass-plastic lenses that Apple utilised on the iPhone 15 Pro Max and that Huawei is preparing to use on one of its first 2024 flagship models, the P70 Art, TF International analyst Ming-Chi Kuo published a fresh research note. Such a hybrid lens, which offers up to 5x optical zoom, is used by the Tetraprism periscope camera in the iPhone 15 Pro Max. The lens is known as 1G3P, which stands for one glass and three plastic pieces.
Apple iPhone 15 Pro Max’s 1G3P lens
A glass-plastic hybrid known as 1G3P, or one glass element, three plastic, makes up the tetraprism lens found in the iPhone 15 Pro Max. With some of the quality benefits of a glass element without the drawbacks of an all-glass design, this is a compromise.
A lens’s many components exist only to compensate for different kinds of distortion. Some of the distortions are removed when there is at least one glass element used.
According to Kuo, more high-end smartphone makers are probably going to follow Apple and Huawei in implementing hybrid lenses, as stated in a recent investment note.
Who makes lenses for Apple?
Apple uses Largan to make its tetraprism lens, however, they use a different supplier for the glass component. With the goal of producing the complete module by 2025 or 2026, Largan is creating its own glass element to satisfy Apple‘s quality standards.
Owing to higher yields, the tetraprism lens—currently limited to the iPhone 15 Pro Max—should be available for the iPhone 16 Pro by the following year.
