Apple: Recently, Apple revealed a significant update to its repair procedure that will simplify the process for both independent repair shops and customers to mend iPhones using recycled Apple parts. Certain iPhone models will be able to be repaired with these recycled parts in the upcoming months. With this change, consumers will have more options, their devices will live longer, and the environmental effect of repairs will be minimised.
Apple’s new repair policy
Used authentic Apple components will now provide full functionality and security comparable to brand-new authentic Apple parts, according to Apple. This change is the outcome of two years of intensive work to allow the reuse of vital components, such as the biometric sensors used for Touch ID or Face ID.
Apple plans to expand the use of its Activation Lock feature to iPhone parts in order to prevent theft and guarantee the authenticity of parts. By limiting the ability of compatible parts acquired from devices with Activation Lock or Lost Mode activated to be calibrated, this feature attempts to stop stolen iPhones from being dismantled for parts.
Apple will no longer request a device’s serial number from clients or service providers when placing component orders from the Self-Service Repair Store for fixes that don’t involve replacing the logic board in order to expedite the repair process. Additionally, Apple stated that biometric sensor use will be supported in upcoming iPhone versions.
This autumn, a new repair procedure will be available for some iPhone models.
