WhatsApp Scam: A 33-year-old guy from Koparkhairane in Navi Mumbai was the victim of a shocking Rs 43.45 lakh WhatsApp fraud, which is a terrible event. The offenders had lured the victim with the assurance of significant rewards through online assignments, just to abandon him for dead.
From a WhatsApp Message to a Rs 43.45 Lakh Scam
The victim’s journey started when he got a WhatsApp message from some unknown people offering him a lucrative part-time job doing internet jobs. He started on this risky trip because he was lured in by the promise of huge gains, unknowingly giving up his hard-earned money. The victim followed instructions to put the enormous cash into several bank accounts, but never received the promised payment. The harmful “online task” fraud, a growing trend, frequently recruits victims by asking them to first perform easy activities, like liking videos, coupled with making little payments to win their trust. Victims are then duped into making substantial investments with the promise of high profits, only to walk away with nothing.
Similar Scams Leave Victims in Financial Distress
Immediately after acting, law enforcement filed a complaint against the con artists under Section 420 of the Indian Penal Code, which deals with “Cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property.” Since no one has been arrested as of yet in connection with the incident, the victim is left to deal with the terrible financial loss. This instance is similar to one that occurred recently in Mumbai, where a 48-year-old Kharghar resident lost around Rs 18 lakh to a similar scheme. Scammers persuaded the victim to complete a variety of online “tasks” on the pretence of needing quick and simple online income. After moving payments to several accounts, he eventually discovered himself out of pocket by Rs 17.9 lakh, after initially receiving tiny sums of money as promised.
Urgent Action Taken Against WhatsApp Scammers
In response to the victim’s complaint, the Navi Mumbai police’s cybercrime branch moved quickly to file a cheating case. These occurrences highlight how crucial it is for people to increase their awareness and vigilance in order to safeguard themselves from falling victim to such dubious schemes. Here are Some Tips To avoid these cyber frauds:
- Be cautious of offers that seem too good to be true
- Never click on unidentified links
- safeguard your personal and Financial data
