China, Russia test hack-proof Quantum Communication link, India Gets an Invite

Russia and China test hack-proof Quantum Communication link, Details

Quantum Communication: Scientists in Russia and China have created quantum communication encrypted with the use of secure keys provided by China’s quantum satellite, demonstrating that a Brics quantum communication network may be theoretically viable.

Russia and China test hack-proof Quantum Communication link

China’s Mozi quantum satellite, encrypted with strong keys, has allowed scientists in both China and Russia to successfully establish a quantum communication link. The fact that this discovery has happened suggests that it would be possible to establish a quantum communication network between the BRICS countries (Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa).

In the western Xinjiang area of China, the scientists were able to bridge 3,800 kilometres between a ground station close to Moscow and another close to Urumqi. With the help of quantum keys, they were able to transmit two encrypted photos. The establishment of national and international quantum communication networks was made feasible by Mozi, China’s quantum satellite, which helped to make this accomplishment possible.

During a gathering of the Brazil-Russia-India-China (BRICS) alliance in July of last year, India was also extended an invitation to participate in the initiative. According to reports, New Delhi was offered the deal because it was deemed an appropriate contender due to the high concentration of reliable quantum technology research in this area.

What is Quantum Communication?

Using cryptography to encode data in individual photons, quantum communication is a type of information transport based on quantum mechanics. With this technique, information can be transferred that is impenetrable to hackers. Data that has been encrypted is transmitted as ones and zeros together with a quantum key that is needed to decrypt the data. Quantum keys, which are secret parameters used to encrypt important information and render it unreadable by unauthorised parties, are strings of random bits.

Security that is “guaranteed by the law of physics” may be possible with the usage of quantum key distribution. Unfortunately, due to photon loss over large distances, ground-based transfer utilising optical fibre cables at decent speeds is only possible for a distance of about 1,000km.
