Reportedly, unknown cybercriminals attempted to infiltrate the Indian Air Force (IAF) and use open-source malware which was constructed using a programming language developed by Google to steal confidential information from the IAF’s internal computer systems. The force did not, however, lose any data.
On January 17, a report was released by Cyble, a US-based cyber threat intelligence firm which identified a Go Stealer malware variant that was targeting IAF systems. The malware was publicly available on GitHub. However, the exact duration and time of the strike is still unknown.
According to the sources, there was “no loss of data from the IAF through this malware attack,” because “sufficient measures are in place to ensure the security of the systems.”
What is Malware?
Any software or program that is specifically created to cause harm to a computer system, network or server is known as malware or malicious software. Its objective can be anything from stealing information and interfering with operations to bringing down the entire system. Malware can destroy your computer’s security system and steal confidential information stored in your devices. Check out how you can stay safe from such malware attacks and protect your valuable data below.
How You Can Stay Safe?
Use Antivirus
Always Install and maintain up-to-date reliable antivirus software on your devices. Update virus definitions frequently to make sure your security program is capable of identifying the most recent threats.
Keep Systems Updated
To prevent such malware attacks, you need to update your browsers, operating systems, and other software programs regularly. It is because security patches that fix flaws in software are frequently included in updates which makes it more difficult for malware to take advantage of vulnerabilities in your devices.
Be Preventive of Links and Attachments
Do not click on links or attachments from unidentified sources or open emails from senders you are not familiar with. If the email asks you to download or open a file proceed with extra caution as these may be malicious attachments depicted as official documents.
Always Use a Firewall
Turn on a firewall on your network or PC that allows you to keep an eye on and manage incoming and outgoing traffic. By putting up a wall between your computer and possible dangers, you can prevent malware attacks and it also helps prevent illegal access.
