Govt warns people of scam calls impersonating officials from DoT
Scammers have been using the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) label to send spam to customers, threatening to disconnect their mobile phones or use them for unlawful purposes. An alert has been released by the Ministry of Communications and the Department of Telecommunication in response to this matter, stating that the DoT does not permit anyone to make these calls on its behalf.
These spam callers attempt to obtain people’s personal information in order to sell it unlawfully or use it fraudulently. Thus, it is imperative that we all remain attentive and aware of these fraudulent calls.
How to stay safe?
In order to stop the misuse of telecom resources, DoT advises reporting such fraudulent communications via the Sanchar Saathi portal’s “Chakshu-Report Suspected Fraud Communications” feature.
“The DoT has advised citizens to report such fraud communications at the ‘Chakshu-Report Suspected Fraud Communications’ facility of the Sanchar Saathi portal. Such proactive reporting helps the DoT in prevention of misuse of telecom resources for cyber-crime, financial frauds, etc,” the statement said.
