Elon Musk: Elon Musk, the owner of X, has announced the removal of the social networking platform’s block feature. Musk was answering a query from the Tesla Owners Silicon Valley account that asked people to choose between the mute and block features.
Blocking is a well-liked safety feature that enables users to safeguard themselves on X against unwanted encounters. Users might, however, still mute other users.

“Is there ever a reason to block or mute someone? Give your reasons,” Tesla Owners Silicon Valley said on X. To this, Musk replied, “Block is going to be deleted as a ‘feature’, except for DMs (direct messages).”
Blocking vs Muting
Blocking has long been a crucial social media platform security function. Users on X have worried that disabling the blocking tool would increase online harassment there.
On the other side, muting an account gives users the option of not seeing posts made by that account, but a muted account can still reply to a user’s post, even repost it for criticism and send a direct message.
