Elon Musk: Prime Minister Narendra Modi met prominent US dignitaries, including Tech Magnet Elon Musk. After meeting with the Indian Prime Minister Musk told reporters that Twitter does not have a choice and has to adhere to laws of the local government. “The best we can do is to follow the laws in any given country,” he said, adding that it is impossible for “us to do more than that”. Twitter’s former owner and CEO Jack Dorsey had alleged that Indian government had threatened to shut the social media website in connection with Farmers protest. There are different rules and regulations for different forms of governments, and “we will do our best to provide the freest speech that is possible under the law”, Musk said.
Dorsey’s allegation against Indian governement
Jack Dorsey had alleged that Indian government had made multiple requests to block Twitter accounts related to Farmers protest. he also claimed that Government of India wanted him to block Twitter accounts that were critical of BJP and Narendra Modi. In an interview with YouTube news platform Breaking Points, he went on to explain how Twitter faced threats of shutdown if it did not comply with orders to restrict some of the accounts. He also alleged that he was even threatened with raiding the homes of Twitter’s employees and shutting down of company’s operations in India. It is also important to note that Rakesh Tikait, leader of farmers protest had stated that it was widely known that social media accounts would be suspended if they continued to highlight the agitation against government.

Response by Indian establishment
Union Minister Anurag Thakur responded to Dorsey’s allegations by claiming that he is attempting to defame India. He also went on to say that why would Dorsey not respond about revelations in Twitter Files about his bias. Thakur who is Union Minister of Information and Broadcasting accused foreign powers of attempting to defame and destabilize country before the election period. Minister of State for Electronics and IT Rajeev Chandrasekhar stated that company Twitter was not complying with laws and norms of the country during the protest and claimed that all the allegations made by Dorsey were an outright ‘lie’. It is also important to note that the social media giant did not face any suspension or shut down in India.
