Elon Musk: Twitter’s new CEO Elon Musk announced that a new tool will soon be available that will allow businesses to identify accounts connected to them in an effort to reduce the number of parody accounts on the social media giant.

Taking to Twitter, Elon wrote “Rolling out soon, Twitter will enable organizations to identify which other Twitter accounts are actually associated with them.”

Elon Musk apologises for slow speed

Elon Musk also apologised via Twitter for some countries’ slow Twitter speeds. He wrote “Btw, I’d like to apologize for Twitter being super slow in many countries. App is doing >1000 poorly batched RPCs just to render a home timeline!”

Musk did not give any other information on the proposed new feature, but it comes after a sharp rise in parody accounts in recent days that created problem in the social media giant.

The company this week also unveiled its new $8 per month Twitter Blue subscription for users in the US, UK, and a few other nations. However, the social media giant was quickly taken over by parody accounts who impersonated brands and celebrities.

Blue tick cost billions of dollars to a pharma company

Businesses and advertising in particular had a terrible dilemma. For instance, the tweets sent by impersonated accounts that received the blue check using Twitter’s new paid verification tool cost the pharmaceutical firm Eli Lilly and the defence giant Lockheed Martin billions of dollars.

Twitter’s blue tick subscription service was put on hold on Friday due to negative feedback from users and advertisers. Additionally, it brought back the grey “Official” verification mark for prominent accounts like those of brands and celebrities.
