Google Doodle Dr Kamal Ranadive: Google is celebrating the 104th birthday of Indian cell biologist Dr Kamal Ranadive with a doodle today. Ranadive is known for her groundbreaking cancer research and for creating a more equitable society through science and education. Today’s doodle has been created by guest artist Ibrahim Rayintakath from India. Talking about his inspiration for today’s doodle, Rayintakath said: “My main source of inspiration was 20th century lab aesthetics and the microscopic world of cells related to leprosy and cancer.” Dr. Ranadive is looking at a microscope in her doodle.
Kamal Samarth, popularly known as Kamal Ranadive, was born on this day in 1917 in Pune, India. Her father inspired her for medical education. Kamal’s father Dinkar used to be a biology professor at Fergusson College in Pune. His aim was that all the children of the house should get the best education, especially the daughters. Kamal lived up to her father’s expectations. She used to pass every exam with good marks. Kamal always learn something new and show it by doing well in it. She was also a key founding member of the Indian Association of Women Scientists (IWSA). Dr Kamal Ranadive was also awarded the Padma Bhushan.

Dr. Ranadive was born on 8 November 1917 in Pune. Her father Dinkar Dattatreya Samarth was a biologist and used to teach at Ferguson College, Pune. The father paid special attention to Kamal’s studies and Kamal herself was very smart in studies. She had her early education at Huzurpaga Girls School in Pune.
Kamal’s father wanted her to study in the field of medicine and marry a doctor, but Kamal completed his B.Sc for Biology with distinction at Ferguson College itself. After this she did her post graduation in Agriculture College, Pune. After this she married JT Ranadive who was a mathematician by profession who helped her a lot in her post graduation studies.
