Google Chooses Accordion for Doodle Today
Today, Google is honouring this free-reed instrument with an animated doodle. The accordion is seen being played in the Google Doodle. Additionally, traditional clothing-wearing German dancers are displayed. Early in the 19th century, the accordion and other instruments like the harmonium, concertina, and bandoneon were developed. Due to the demand created by its popularity at the time among European folk performers, accordion producers in Germany seized the chance to boost accordion production.
About the Musical Instrument
The accordion is a lightweight, free-reed musical instrument featuring buttons reminiscent of piano keys in one portion. The buttons on early accordions were single-sided. The sound of a complete chord could be heard from each of these buttons. This also had the feature of having two chords that could be produced with a single button.
The demand for accordions in Europe grew over time, leading to an increase in both the instrument’s manufacture and global appeal. With the global migration of Europeans, so did the accordion’s role in music. The instrument is still used today in a variety of genres, including folk, Cajun, tango, and Latin polka.
