Google Play Store: According to the testimony presented by Epic Games, it is reported that Google has agreed to pay USD 8 billion over four years to be the default search engine, App Store and Voice assistant in the brand’s android mobile devices.
According to a report by Bloomberg, Tech Giant agreed to pay Samsung USD $8 Billion over four years to makes its search engine, app store and tablets default on the Samsung mobile devices. Tech giant has reportedly taken this step to destroy its alternative in the android devices. James Kolotouros, Vice President for Partnerships at Google, testified the same during the antitrust trial against Google that the company pays Android device makers to keep its apps on the home screen.
The allegations made by Epic Games in the presented testimony was testified by the Google’s executive when questioned by a lawyer appointed by Epic Games Inc. It also said that Google do such thing to minimize or complete destroy its competition. For instance, Samsung provides their own App store, Voice assistant and search engine in its android smartphones. The claim also stated that Google prevents non-Google apps to be the default apps on Samsung devices.
During the anti-trust trial, Samsung’s executive James Kolotourus also disclosed that the company has taken this step because Samsung accounted more than half of the revenue from Google Play. The tech giant’s plan to share ad revenue has a “Project Banyan” code name.
