Google: Google has declared that, as of December 1, all dormant Google accounts will be deleted globally. Additionally, the business will remove all stuff linked to these accounts, such as contacts, Gmail, photos, Drive documents, and so forth. Google said back in May that accounts that are unused or outdated have a higher risk of being hacked. As a preventative measure, the company is revising its guidelines for dormant accounts.
Google to start deleting millions of inactive accounts
Google’s new policy states, “if a Google Account has not been used or signed into for at least 2 years, we may delete the account and its contents – including content within Google Workspace (Gmail, Docs, Drive, Meet, Calendar) and Google Photos.”
Remarkably, accounts for establishments such as businesses or schools will not be impacted. Furthermore, before to deactivating users’ accounts, Google will send them several notifications.
How to keep yours safe?
It is highly advised for users to take part in activities in order to prevent account deactivation. Using Google Drive, watching YouTube videos, installing apps from the Google Play Store, sending or receiving emails, using Google Search, and “Sign in with Google” for third-party apps or services are some examples of these activities. In order to guarantee Google Photos’ continuous operation, users must also log in to their accounts every two years.
