Android: Millions of people rely on the Google-owned Android operating system for daily use, making it the most popular mobile platform in the world. These days, since smartphones make the majority of work possible, we frequently keep and exchange a great deal of personal information on them, including our location, banking information, and other information. The Indian government has issued a serious warning for users of Android OS versions 11, 12, 12L, and 13. This is to ensure user safety. Read on to learn more.
The government issues critical warning for Android users
The vulnerabilities in the Android OS have been classified as “critical” by CERT, meaning that exploitation of them could have disastrous consequences. The government further cautions that if these flaws are exploited, they will allow attackers to engage in a variety of malicious activities, such as running their own code on the device, obtaining administrative rights, accessing private user data, and even bringing about a denial of service (DoS) scenario that renders the device inoperable. Simply put, these security holes might give hackers access to your Android device, allowing them to take control of it, steal your data, or even make it inoperable.
An attacker may be able to run arbitrary code, obtain elevated privileges, access confidential data, and bring about denial of service conditions on the targeted system if these vulnerabilities are successfully exploited. Users should install the recommended patches, as advised by Google, to prevent fraud.
How to stay safe?
The following security tips are provided to users to help protect their devices against flaws and other potential malicious attacks:
- Don’t download every app you see on the Play Store.
- Keep an eye on the permissions you give to an app.
- Keep your phone updated always.
- Apple security patches as soon as they are released
