Google Chrome: A high-risk warning on multiple vulnerabilities discovered in Google Chrome OS has been released by the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (Cert-In). As per the government research team’s most recent security advisory, dated February 8, 2024, and designated as CIVN-2024-0031, these vulnerabilities are considered high-risk and pose significant risks to users of Google Chrome OS versions prior to 114.0.5735.350 (Platform Version: 15437.90.0) on the LTS channel.

The vulnerabilities that have been detected can be “exploited by a remote attacker to execute arbitrary code, gain elevated privileges, bypass security restrictions, or cause denial of service conditions on the targeted system,” according to CERTIn.
These weaknesses result from two primary problems.
By exploiting memory problems in the Side Panel Search functionality, attackers might possibly execute arbitrary code or circumvent security safeguards.
Inadequate validation of data entered in extensions is the source of this vulnerability, which an attacker could use to carry out harmful operations on compromised systems.
How to stay safe?
Cert-In strongly recommends updating Google Chrome to the most recent version, which includes critical security fixes, right away in order to reduce these risks. To take advantage of improved system security measures, users should make it a priority to update to version 114.0.5735.350 or later of Google Chrome OS. Users are also urged to be cautious when using the internet, especially when they come across strange or dubious websites. Potential risks can be lessened by avoiding contacts with unsolicited emails, texts, and links from unreliable sources. To reinforce defence mechanisms against cyber threats, it is also recommended to use strong security measures, such as reliable antivirus software, frequent software upgrades, and firewall activation.
