Hackers threaten Reddit of leaking 80 GB of stolen data, demands ransom

Reddit: The social media platform has involved itself in another controversy as hacking group BlackCat ransomware gang has threatened the company with 80gb of its leaked data. As per a report by TechCrunch BlackCat ransomware gang also known as ALPHV is demanding a ransom of US $4.5 million to delete the stolen data. The hackers claim to have stolen the data during a breach in company systems in the month of February. In a post titled “The Reddit Files” published on Saturday, BlackCat stated that they contacted Reddit twice once in April and again on June 16 but they did not receive a response. The hacking group was also responsible for March attack on Western Digital where 10 terabytes of company data was stolen.

API Pricing Plans

Meanwhile, Reddit’s new API pricing plans have been subject to protest by many significant Subreddits. This has caused a sharp decline in company’s daily average traffic. On June 11 more than 57 million daily visits were recorded, a figure which by June 13 fell to 52.1 million.
