iPhone 14: With the iPhone 14, Apple debuted the SOS emergency satellite connectivity capability. The function played an important role in saving the life of a guy who was trapped in Alaska earlier this month. The feature of the phone has now once again demonstrated its potential to save lives by saving the lives of two persons who fell into a canyon in California.
What exactly happened?
A car accident involving a 300-foot drop into an isolated canyon happened on the Angeles Forest Highway in the Californian Angeles National Forest. The iPhone 14 quickly identified the accident and immediately sent an SOS to rescuers via satellite connectivity.
Apple iPhone 14 Emergency SOS delivered a text message via satellite to one of Apple’s relay centres. The LA County Sheriff’s department was then contacted for assistance with the message. The Montrose Research and Rescue Team responded to the emergency call and travelled to the scene to save the two accident victims. They were subsequently taken to a nearby hospital to receive treatment for minor to major wounds.
According to a tweet from the Montrose Research and Rescue Team, they were able to obtain “an accurate latitude and longitude for the victims” thanks to an emergency satellite call from Apple on December 14 at 1:55 p.m. The entire rescue operation was captured on camera.
iPhone 14 Crash detection feature
It should be noted that this is not the first time a life-saving Apple product has received praise. As previously reported, on December 1, 2022, a man travelling from Noorvik to Kotzebue in Alaska became lost in a chilly, inaccessible area. Fortunately, he was an iPhone user and had the iPhone 14 with him at the time. On his pgone, he turned on the emergency SOS via satellite function. The search and rescue organisation was then updated by Apple’s Emergency Response Center, which also provided his GPS coordinates with iPhone 14.
