IRCTC website Scam
When the victim was asked about the incident, he recalled feeling as though he had arrived at a false website when attempting to cancel his ticket. The victim then received a call from someone who identified themselves as a railway employee and began delivering instructions to the victim in both Hindi and English.
The victim continued to listen to this individual, who identified himself as a railway employee, until all of a sudden, a blue colour mark appeared on the victim’s screen, giving the con artists access of the victim’s device. Not only that, but this person also made the error of disclosing his bank account information and ATM card number.
A short while later, he received a notification that a sizeable sum of money had been taken out of his savings account. Alarmed by this event, he immediately went to his bank where he learned that a stunning 4 lakh rupees had also been withdrawn from his fixed deposit account.
What exactly happened?
According to the investigation conducted by the police’s cyber unit, downloading the “Rest Desk” app gave the con artists access to Basheer’s phone. The money was stolen in four different withdrawals, with being billed Rs 4,05,919. The authorities believe that people from Bengal and Bihar may be connected to the phone numbers used to contact Basheer.
