Rakuten all set to launch its AI language model in the market, Here is all we know about it

Rakuten: Rakuten CEO Hiroshi “Mickey” Mikitani recently talked with CNBC about the company’s ongoing effort to develop its large language model (LLM). In contrast to its counterparts in the technology sector, Rakuten’s wide range of commercial endeavours, encompassing banking, telecommunications, and e-commerce, grants them access to a remarkably broad dataset.

Mikitani estimates that Rakuten’s LLM, which it will train with this “very unique” dataset, will improve marketing tactics and operational efficiency by 20%. Rakuten further plans to make its AI model available to outside companies, such as Microsoft and Amazon.

In the upcoming “couple of months,” Mikitani claims, the business is on track to release its AI model.

AI in Japan

A significant advancement in Japan’s AI capabilities is the creation of Rakuten’s LLM. Although it has lagged behind in the field of AI, Japan has long been a pioneer in robotics and other technological fields. Rakuten’s investment in LLM technology is evidence that Japan is making headway in overtaking the world leaders in artificial intelligence.

As massive Chinese and American IT giants like Tencent, Amazon, Google, Baidu, Alibaba, and OpenAI have successfully launched their LLMs, Japanese businesses are attempting to level the playing field.
