Job Scam: Mumbai man loses almost 6 lakhs
The victim is a manager at a private bank, according to a case published by TOI. He was given a job opportunity one day by two people who claimed to be bank representatives from another financial institution. The victim consented to apply for the post and even paid the Rs 100 application fee in an effort to obtain a job switch with a higher income.
The con artists even obtained his banking information during the course of the job application process. Later, the con artists used the victim’s bank information to steal money from their account twice. The victim went to the police and reported identity theft and cheating after noticing unapproved transactions and realising he had been conned.
Tips to keep you safe
- When someone demands money from you during the application process or asks you to click on an unknown link, you should be aware that you are being tricked. Your device could be infected with a harmful virus by clicking on an unfamiliar link, or your account could be cleaned up by hacking your device.
- If the applicant in front of you requests your bank account information under any circumstance, be aware that you are in a trap. Never disclose bank account or OTP information to anyone.
- Make sure to research the company’s history before applying for an online position.
