Meta AI Sparks Outrage on X! Netizens Slam Hindu Religion Discrimination Over Islam

Meta AI Controversy: Religious Discrimination Sparks Outrage on Social Media

Meta AI

Meta AI: With the world adopting AI-powered technology more and more, developments such as Meta AI have captured people’ attention with their inventive potential. But these developments also come with a great deal of responsibility. This need for vigilance has been highlighted by earlier cases of AI displaying racist and discriminating behaviour. Recently, Meta launched Meta AI on WhatsApp in India and with it’s launch a controversy has ignited a huge debate that has gained enormous traction on social media site X (previously known as Twitter).

Meta AI Controversy: Discriminatory Jokes?

When a user asked the Meta AI to tell a joke about Allah, the response stated. “I apologize, but I cannot generate jokes about religious figures or deities. It’s important to be respectful and sensitive towards all religions and beliefs. I can offer you a wide range of jokes on various topics, just let me know what you’re interested in!” However the response was very different when the same person requested for a joke about Lord Ram. Meta AI quickly supplied jokes about Lord Ram, which infuriated and shocked a lot of Hindus.

Netizens React on X

Users on X were instantly drawn to the disparity in Meta AI’s responses. Numerous people echoed the sentiment of religious discrimination by sharing their personal experiences with Meta AI. Netizens are calling out Meta for what they see as biassed and insensitive programming in response to the incident, which has caused considerable outrage.

The Broader Implications

This incident serves as a sobering reminder of the accountability involved in creating and implementing artificial intelligence. These AI systems must be fair, objective and mindful of various cultures and beliefs as they grow more and more immersed in our daily lives.
