OpenAI and Meta: Authors Richard Kadrey and Christopher Golden, and comedian Sarah Silverman allege that Meta Platforms and OpenAI have violated their copyright by utilising their content without their consent to train language models for artificial intelligence.

The lawsuit claims that OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Meta’s LLaMA were trained on unauthorised datasets containing their works, which they claim were obtained from “shadow library” websites like Bibliotik, Library Genesis, Z-Library, and others. It also claims that the books are “available in bulk via torrent systems.”
When requested, ChatGPT will summarise their books, violating their copyrights, according to the authors. Golden’s book Ararat and Kadrey’s Sandman Slim are both included in the suit, while Silverman’s Bedwetter is the first book depicted being summarised by ChatGPT in the exhibits.
The plaintiffs claim that information regarding Meta’s artificial intelligence business that was released demonstrates that their work was exploited without their consent in their case against the corporation.
Meta and OpenAI had not reacted to requests for comment as of Sunday.
