Russia: Apple devices are no longer permitted to be used by personnel at Rostec, the government-run military-industrial conglomerate in Russia. According to a statement to the Tass news agency from Rostec’s press office, the prohibition extends to all corporate departments.

Russia bans Apple products for government use

The Federal Security Service and the Kremlin have grown increasingly concerned about the escalating espionage activities by US intelligence agencies targeting Russian state facilities. This concern led to the decision to forbid iPhones, iPads, and other Apple devices in prominent ministries and institutes.

Rostec has said that Apple works closely with the US intelligence community and allows massive surveillance on behalf of the US government.

Apple’s Say

Apple adamantly rejects these claims, claiming that it has never partnered with a government to build backdoors into its products. The Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade recently declared a crackdown on iPhones despite the denial, with a ban on Apple devices for its staff slated to go into place the following week.
