Samsung Galaxy Glasses: During a brief press conference at Unpacked, Samsung said that it is developing an Extended Reality (XR) experience with Qualcomm and Google. Now that we know more about how this impending head-mounted gadget, which is expected to have the model number SM-I120, will operate once it is sold, we can better prepare for its release.
The Google Glass and Microsoft Hololens initiatives are likely to be different from the XR headset, which is being developed to provide consumers with an immersive experience. Compared to its rivals, the device is more likely to operate similarly to the Meta Quest Pro and Apple Glass.

Samsung’s XR headgear is a stand-alone VR and AR device that uses video passthrough to power its AR capabilities. The XR headset won’t require any additional devices to operate, in contrast to the Gear VR, which did so by utilising a smartphone and rendering visuals on the phone’s screen rather than the headgear’s optics. More information about the capabilities of the next device will also be made available by the manufacturer.
If the Samsung Galaxy Glasses will work with Meta’s platform or if it will be available as a Quest Pro rival, neither of these things is known. In either event, Samsung needs to create its VR and AR applications to make sure the mixed reality app ecosystem is prepared for the XR headset’s debut. It will be fascinating to see how Samsung responds to this threat given that Meta already seems to be well ahead of Samsung.
Expected launch date
The Galaxy XR device doesn’t yet have an official release date, but Samsung teased it during the Unpacked event in February and may unveil it at its subsequent launch event in August or September alongside the Galaxy Z Flip 5 and Galaxy Z Fold 5. At the very least, it’s probably safe to expect that Samsung will again tease its XR/MR headset at the upcoming Unpacked event and/or provide further information about its features.
