Samsung Z Fold 6: The upcoming Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 is expected to arrive with the same 50MP ISOCELL GN3 image sensor as it was seen in the Galaxy Z Fold 5, according to earlier reports from tipster Revegnus. Another tipper, Ice Universe, also added to the fact that Samsung’s next book-style foldable phone will not feature any upgraded cameras. On the other hand, a few sources, like tipster Revegnus have revealed that there’s a chance the Z Fold 6 will have the same 200MP primary camera sensor as the Galaxy S24 Ultra.
The rumours of the Z Fold 6 featuring a 200MP camera were proved wrong by an inside via a credible source “GalaxyClub” which mentioned that “so far Samsung is planning a 50 megapixel main camera – the same as in the Samsung Galaxy S24.”
Potential Reasons Samsung is Sticking to the 50MP Sensor
The Galaxy S24 Ultra’s 200MP primary sensor is rather huge and there have been rumours that the Z Fold 6 will get even slimmer than its predecessor. Some reports claim that the Galaxy Z Fold 6 would have a novel hinge design that will enable the phone to close to a mere 11 mm in thickness. For comparison, the closed dimensions of the Galaxy Z Fold 5 are 13.4 mm. Fitting the sensor into that tiny form factor appears to be difficult because a larger sensor produces a longer focal length which increases the camera module’s size.
OnePlus Open: A Clear Competitor
the OnePlus Open’s camera module protrusion resembles that of certain major flagships because of the comparatively larger 64MP sensor for its 3x telephoto lens and its thickness of 11.7 mm in the closed state.
To put things in perspective, GSMArena reports that the OnePlus Open’s 3x telephoto (70mm equivalent) sensor size is 1/2.0′′, which is noticeably bigger than the Galaxy Z Fold 5’s 10MP telephoto sensor. The Galaxy Z Fold 6’s camera module protrusion will rise if the larger 1/1.3′′, 200MP sensor is used for the primary camera, changing the device’s overall design aesthetics.
