Elon Musk: NASA’s Psyche has been successfully launched on SpaceX’s robust Falcon Heavy rocket to a far-off, metal-rich asteroid. After finishing the assignment, both of its boosters simultaneously touched down on the pads.

Elon Musk Celebrates SpaceX’s Falcon Heavy Launch of NASA’s Psyche Mission

Elon Musk Shared the video posted by SpaceX on Twitter writing, ‘Falcon Heavy.’ Following the launch of SpaceX’s Falcon Heavy earlier today, NASA‘s sizable Psyche mission is now travelling towards the metal-rich asteroid. At 10:19 a.m. Eastern Standard Time, the strong rocket blasted off from NASA’s Kennedy Space Centre. Just over an hour after launch, the Psyche spacecraft successfully disengaged from the Falcon Heavy upper stage. Just before noon, NASA engineers made touch with it. The approximate value of the NASA-SpaceX contract is $131 million.

Psyche’s Journey to the Metal-Rich Asteroid

In order to move towards a target asteroid using Mars’ gravitational field, Psyche will get there in May 2026. The spacecraft will spend 26 months orbiting the metal-rich asteroid after arriving at its target. It will investigate the space object, taking multispectral pictures, mapping the asteroid’s surface, and analysing its mineral and chemical make-up. The mission will also research high-energy particles and the asteroid’s gravitational forces.
