Snapchat-parental control: Snapchat is releasing an initial set of parental controls to users in India a few months after its debut in the United States and some other regions, in order to provide parents and guardians in important international markets with insights into how their kids are using the social networking app.
Snapchat is cming with Family Center in-app tool functioning
The Family Center in-app tool allows parents and guardians to see who their teens are friends with on the social app and who they have messaged in the last seven days. (They cannot view the precise substance of the messages.) It also adds the opportunity to report potential safety issues and abuse to Snap’s Trust and Safety team for evaluation.
To use the new function, parents and guardians must install the Snapchat app on their devices and link their accounts to those of their teens via an opt-in invite process. Once the accounts have been linked, the tool and all of its features can be accessed via the Snapchat app’s Profile Settings or by searching for “family” or “family centre” via the app’s Search capability.
Because Snapchat is not intended for usage by children under the age of 13, parental controls are only available to parents and guardians of teens aged 13 to 18.
Snap first announced the availability of parental controls in October of last year
They were made available in the United States in August. This was followed by the introduction of comparable functionality by competing social networking platforms such as Meta’s Instagram and TikTok. Snap’s offering, on the other hand, is limited. It does not allow parents and guardians to prevent their teens from accessing the app after a certain time, like Instagram and TikTok both do.
With the new tool, the Santa Monica, California-based corporation is also not addressing complaints about inappropriate activity on its platform, such as sexting. The app’s transitory messages make it vulnerable to misuse and abuse.
Snapchat has added several extra safeguards
Over the years they have added such as requiring kids to have mutual connections before they can begin messaging. Teenagers are also barred from creating public profiles on the app.
Snap has announced that it would debut its Family Center feature in India in collaboration with local organisations FXB India Suraksha and CyberPeace Foundation. According to the corporation, it will also collaborate closely with both groups to develop new parental controls.
To commemorate World Mental Health Day and Bullying Prevention Month, Snap is also conducting worldwide bully prevention and mental health programmes. For these efforts, the firm in India announced a collaboration with the nonprofit Sangath.
According to market research firm Sensor Tower, India is a major market for Snap
With more than 109 million monthly active users, India is a major market for Snap . Snap launched its premium product, Snapchat+, in the South Asian market in August.
