SpaceX: Last year, Apple introduced the iPhone 14 series in India. Many excellent features were included by the firm. Satellite communication was one of these features. However, Apple only made this feature available in a few nations. This SOS service offers the capability of providing information even when there is no network in the event of an emergency. Currently, Apple is preparing to make this capability available to everyone worldwide.
SpaceX to launch a satellite for Apple
The Emergency SOS function on the iPhone 14 is unique in that it utilises satellite technology. In other words, even if the user is in a place without a cell network, this emergency service will still function. because a direct satellite connection is used. Globalstar is Apple’s associate in providing this service. Globalstar will reportedly expand this service going forward with assistance from SpaceX. The Globalstar satellite will now be launched by SpaceX.
For this, Globalstar and SpaceX have a $64 million agreement. The corporation will accomplish this by launching its satellite into orbit in 2025. The filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission, according to the report, has verified this news. This Space X satellite will be crucial in growing this service of Globalstar. Although this is not the first time that Globalstar has enlisted the assistance of Elon Musk’s business. Last year, SpaceX assisted in launching a satellite for Globalstar from Florida’s Kennedy Space Center.
The US, Canada, France, Germany, Ireland, Austria, Belgium, Italy, the Netherlands, and Portugal all offer emergency SOS service through satellite at this time. Therefore, emergency satellite communication is still feasible if you have an iPhone 14 or later model (including the future iPhone 15) and are stranded in an area without a mobile network.
