The Indian government sets quality requirements for Type-C chargers and Digital TV receivers

Type-C chargers: The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has already established specifications for USB Type C receptacles, plugs, and cables as the country works toward establishing a common charging port for smartphones and other electronic devices by March 2025.

According to the press release, the requirements for the USB Type-C connector, plug, and cables used in smartphones, desktops, notebooks, and other devices are in conformity with international standards.

Cable and Connector for USB Type-C
The Bureau of Indian Standards published the Indian Standard IS/IEC 62680-1-3:2022 USB Type-C Cable and Connector Specification. India has ratified the current international standard IEC 62680-1- 3:2022.

The USB Type-C ports, plugs, and cables used in a range of electronic devices, such as computers, notebooks, mobile phones, and others, are specified by this standard. This standard would provide common charging procedures for the smartphones and other electronic devices sold in the country.

Because they wouldn’t need a different charger for every new item they bought, consumers would need fewer charges overall. The Government of India would be able to advance sustainable development and reduce e-waste by doing this.

TVs with digital tuners

The release claimed that TVs built to this Indian specification would enable the reception of Free-To-Air TV and Radio channels by simply adding a dish antenna with LNB placed on a suitable site, on the building’s rooftop or side wall.

This would make it simpler to inform a large portion of the population across the entire country about government initiatives, programmes, educational Doordarshan programming, and a collection of Indian culture programmes.
At the moment, analogue transmission is being phased out by Doordarshan. Free-to-air channels will continue to be broadcast by Doordarshan using digital satellite transmission.

As a result, to receive these free-to-air channels without a set-top box, television receivers with built-in satellite tuners are necessary.

India’s Video Surveillance System Standards

The Bureau of Indian Standards’ technical committee on Alarms and Electronic Security Systems has created a series of Indian Standards (IS 16910) on Video Surveillance Systems for Use in Security Applications.
The IS 16910 series of Standards has embraced the International Standard IEC 62676 series. The standard provides a comprehensive analysis of each component of a video surveillance system, including the requirements for the system, interface requirements, camera specifications, and tests to assess camera image quality. Additionally, it offers guidelines for a proper system installation.

The news release continued, “These guidelines will assist clients, installers, and users in defining their demands, identifying the equipment required for their intended applications, and providing a method for objectively assessing the performance of the VSS.” Additionally, this will improve the monitoring system’s price, durability, and security.
