Popular messaging platform WhatsApp has embarked on an innovative venture with Indian actress Anushka Sharma. This project, aiming to underscore the importance of private communication, will present a series of intriguing mirrored messages in women’s restrooms across various Delhi-based malls.
Making Privacy Visible
WhatsApp’s latest campaign takes an inventive approach, revealing messages on restroom mirrors activated by motion. These mirror messages, paired with a QR code, offer suggestions for initiating a private conversation via WhatsApp. Adding an ephemeral touch, these messages vanish after a while, much like WhatsApp’s ‘Disappearing Messages’ feature.
Anushka Sharma Amplifies the Message
Anushka Sharma, voicing her support for the campaign, emphasised the significance of safe spaces for women to express themselves. The Bollywood actress underscored the potential of a private conversation to empower women, fostering an environment where they can discuss concerns, seek help, and ensure their safety. She stressed the importance of reaching out to a friend or loved one, affirming that a single private message can sometimes be a lifeline.
WhatsApp’s Strides towards Privacy Enhancement
WhatsApp continues to uphold its commitment to user privacy, with Sandhya Devanathan, Vice President of Meta India, highlighting the company’s efforts. The mirrored messages campaign is just one of the steps WhatsApp is taking to safeguard users’ privacy and encourage the sharing of concerns. The company hopes this initiative will spark significant discussions and foster a network of support among women.

Introducing New Privacy Measures
The launch of the campaign coincides with the introduction of new privacy features by WhatsApp. Mark Zuckerberg has announced the ‘Silence Unknown Callers’ feature, which aims to shield users from unsolicited calls and scams. Additionally, WhatsApp is rolling out the ‘Privacy Checkup’ tool, designed to guide users through privacy settings, ensuring they have the appropriate level of protection.
This new campaign brings to the fore the vital role of private conversations in fostering safety and support. As WhatsApp continues to innovate with privacy-first features and partnerships, users are set to benefit from enhanced communication spaces. Anushka Sharma’s involvement bolsters the initiative’s reach, ensuring the message is heard loud and clear across India.
