Threads App: The much-anticipated introduction of Threads, the microblogging service owned by Instagram parent company Meta, on July 6 has generated a tonne of anticipation. It reached 55 million members in a single day and even prompted Elon Musk-owned Twitter, its main rival, to file a lawsuit. On a completely unrelated topic, though, internet users appeared divided: what does the Threads logo actually mean?
Malayalam Letter, Odia Letter, or Just Perfectly Capturing the App’s Spirit?
Indian fans were quick to point out on social media that the Threads logo is actually the Malayalam letter, which is pronounced as “thra,” rotated “90 degrees clockwise.” Others claim that the Threads logo is reminiscent of the Odia letter “u,” which is written as ” ଉ” Foodies naturally gravitated towards the sinfully delicious jalebi, and it’s hard to blame them. The recent trend among technology businesses, where logos and overall stylings are steadily adopting retro styles typified by heavy simplicity, is, according to devoted tech-heads, best illustrated by the Threads logo. Perhaps the best example is Carl Pei’s Nothing. We want to point out that none of the above statements are true because Meta has not explained what the Threads logo actually represents. Instead, the design’s foundation is very straightforward and perfectly captures the spirit and personality of the app.
Threads Logo’s Relationship with Instagram and its Design Elements
The Instagram logo, as we all know (see the lens-like circle and flash on top? ), is actually a vintage Instax camera. The app Threads now integrates with Instagram. To begin with, Threads cannot be used without an Instagram account. Therefore, it only makes sense that the Threads logo’s overall design will demonstrate how it is related to the Instagram logo. Look at the Threads and Instagram logos side by side while keeping that in mind. Check the image above one more time. Do you already recognise the similarities? Additionally, if you’ve used Threads before, you’ve probably seen how the app’s user interface is dominated by designs that resemble strings. The essence of the app is represented by a single thread that runs throughout the logo. Therefore, a nod to the Instagram logo while maintaining the threads-inspired style. Of course, the @ sign, which is used for user IDs on almost all well-known social networking platforms, is also a nod in the Threads logo. Meta, we see what you did there! Having said that, the creators have not yet confirmed the design, therefore readers are urged to take this news with a grain of salt.
