Twitter: Elon Musk’s attitude to Twitter management since purchasing it has been as erratic as his timeline on the social media platform.
The world’s richest man has laid off employees, proposed a change to user authentication, and is apparently mulling a number of changes that, if implemented, would mark a significant makeover of the business. Here are the most significant adjustments he has made or is considering making.
Twitter Staff Laid Off
Elon Musk let go of senior executives such as CEO Parag Agrawal, CFO Ned Segal, and legal affairs and policy leader Vijaya Gadde. According to internal plans acquired by Reuters, he intends to lay off roughly half of his personnel, or approximately 3,700 people. The first announcements came on Friday, when Twitter’s entire marketing team was fired in India, the company’s largest market.
Charges For Blue Tick
Twitter will charge $8 per month for the verified tag and its Blue service, which includes blue tick verification as well as priority in responses, mentions, and search. Elon Musk has revealed that paying customers would be able to post longer films and audios.
Executive purge
Musk is now Twitter’s only director, having disbanded the board, including chair Bret Taylor, and fired a number of executives as soon as he took over the company last week. Parag Agrawal, the CEO, Ned Segal, the CFO, and Vijaya Gadde, the head of legal, policy, and trust, were among those let go. As de facto CEO, Musk has assembled a team of colleagues to assist him in running the company, including his personal attorney, Alex Spiro, and tech investors Jason Calacanis and David Sacks.
Plans for content moderation and account reinstatement
Musk has guaranteed that no changes to content regulations, including the reinstatement of banned accounts such as Donald Trump’s, will be made until the newly announced content moderation council meets.
He has stated that a new mechanism monitoring account reinstatements will take at least “a few more weeks.”
Advertising
A slew of corporate sponsors have paused and withdrawn from Twitter. Some examples include General Motors, General Mills, Audi of America, Mondelez International, Pfizer Inc, and Ford. Elon Musk, in a tweet to advertisers, said he wanted Twitter to be “the most respected advertising platform”.
Pay Per View
According to The Washington Post, Elon Musk is considering allowing users to post video content behind a paywall.
To put it another way, video feature According to Reuters, Twitter was working on a feature that would allow anyone to submit films and charge users to view them, with the firm collecting a cut of the proceeds.
Changes in Homepage
According to a Verge story, Tesla CEO Elon Musk requested that logged-out users accessing Twitter’s homepage be diverted to the Explore page, which displays trending tweets and news stories.
