Twitter X Logo: San Francisco city authorities have launched an investigation into Twitter’s X logo placed atop the company’s former headquarters.
‘Violates the rules’
They say placement of the new logo violates permits regulations and historic buildings consistency. The authorities also say placing the new logo without permission is unsafe to pedestrians walking on the streets below.
Twitter’s owner, Elon Musk rebranded the social media platform earlier this week. The famous blue bird has been replaced with the letter ‘X.’
Musk’s other business entities, notably SpaceX, have this letter prominently.
AP News says the X appeared after the city police stopped workers from removing Rwitter’s earlier logo, saying this could endanger pedestrians.
Patrick Hannan from the Department of Building Inspection said that any replacement symbols or letters would require a permit ensuring “consistency with the historic nature of the building.”
Building owners must also ensure that such signs are adequately secured for the safety of workers and pedestrians, Hannan said.
These safeguards were absent in the case of Twitter’s former headquarters.
Patrick Hannan also told the media via an email, “Planning review and approval is also necessary for the installation of this sign. The city is opening a complaint and initiating an investigation.”
A revamped Twitter
Under Musk, Twitter has been trying to add value to its users.
Earlier this week, Linda Yaccarino, Twitter CEO said in a series of tweets, “X is the future state of unlimited interactivity – centred in audio, video, messaging, payments/banking – creating a global marketplace for ideas, goods, services, and opportunities. Powered by AI, X will connect us all in ways we’re just beginning to imagine.”
Many advertisers have left the platform and Musk says Twitter is sliding down in revenues. Last month, Meta launched Threads, which is expected to rival Twitter in terms of UX and UI.
