ChatGPT: US congress has introduced restrictions over use of OpenAI’s chatbot ChatGPT by staff of the legislature. Guidelines and rules have been laid down regarding use of Chatbot by the staff members. As per a report by Axios, Chief Administrative Officer Catherine L Szpindor issued a memo to House staffers stating that offices are ‘only authorized’ to use ChatGPT Plus.
The staff is not allowed to use free version of ChatGPT which does not incorporate important privacy features.
Safeguarding sensitive data
The staffers would no longer be use the chatbot for completing regular work. This has been done to prevent copy pasting of sensitive data. The notice read “For example, do not paste into the chatbot any blocks of text that have not already been made public.” Staffers have also been instructed not copy/paste data that has not already been made public.
Widespread concerns around ChatGPT
Italy was the first country to ban ChatGPT over concerns of large scale data collection. Lack of guidelines over use by minors also prompted Italian Data Protection Authority to ban the service.
Meanwhile CEO Sam Altman and creator of ChatGPT has been lobbying the European Union (EU) to reduce regulations for AI. Few weeks ago ChatGPT had threatned to leave EU but no such development occurred later.
The EU plans to bring in the AI Act, providing rules and regulations to protect citizens from the advancements in the technology.
As per a report by ZDNet use of AI by HR professionals has been increasing sharply.
